Art, Design and Media Centre

Phase 3 of the Hendon campus masterplan will provide a new arts, design and media centre for Middlesex University’s School of Arts and Education, replacing the existing buildings at the Cathill campus.

Currently used as a car park for the adjacent Town Hall, the centre will contain adaptable workshops and studios for fine art, photography, jewellery making, sound and TV recording, ancillary space and a large central atrium for exhibitions.

The building is designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘excellent’. The plan focuses on passive design to reduce CO2 and keep long term energy use and maintenance costs to a minimum.

The designs take advantage of thermal mass, maximisation of daylight, siting of the building and natural ventilation. Sustainable features include pitched green roofs, solar hot water panels and a combined heat and power system.
