Feature Wall at Lea Bridge Station

We are supporting London Borough of Waltham Forest with the development of a new rail station entrance at Lea Bridge, Waltham Forest.

Putting Network Rail 'Our Principles of Good Design' into practice the design team are proposing a community-focused approach to the design of the new station entrance which has been validated through the design led FORM 004 process.

BPR Architects incorporated a ‘Feature Wall’ into the station's design, which provides the opportunity for the local community and local artist to collaborate in the project and show their stories at the approach of the station.

The intention is that the wall will evoke the history, communities, cultures and identities of the local area, helping to contextualise the building. Suggested ideas include reference to the local areas water industry; work of local artists; innovative history of the station and a celebration of the local community.

On the 5th July, the station team undertook community consultation to encourage local people’s ideas to influence the emerging design proposals.

The Council are now considering the best route to materialise the community’s visions within the design.
