The subway beneath platforms 1 to 19 at Waterloo station was fully refurbished to provide additional capacity at the busiest terminal station in London. Significant civil engineering works were carried out beneath the live operational railway to form new arched openings between two tunnels. Automatic ticket gates (ATG) were introduced to provide revenue protection throughout the station, both in the new subway and at concourse level.
bpr prepared the masterplan strategy to ensure the safe movement of passengers following the introduction of the new gate line. The design concept included new finishes throughout with durable high quality materials. We completed the detailed design on behalf of Murphy construction. Careful detailing was used to ensure that the robust materials provided a high quality finish.
