Working for H2O bloc, a joint venture between bloc group and the Canal & River Trust, bpr were instructed to prepare design proposals for a new 4-storey, 92-bed hotel development with parking spaces, and a replacement Travis Perkins builders merchant at a site in Rickmansworth. The location, orientation and massing of the buildings were designed to have minimal impact on the surrounding context while still being identifiable in the immediate vicinity surrounding the site.

The objective of the project was to make better use of an existing brownfield site that had been underused, and improving the existing use through more efficient application of space; thereby enhancing this important local business. The scheme delivers a high-quality sustainable development on an important local canal side location.
