BPR were commissioned by the University of East London to reconfigure the entrance to the AVA which houses the University's School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering.
The brief was to provide a new high-quality exhibition and event space for use by the University: 'The Atrium'. Within it, visitors are greeted by a Feature Wall where students can curate digital exhibitions. Coupled with the new concierge-style desk, the design has enabled a truly accessible and inclusive space that aids wayfinding across the AVA and instils a sense of surprise and delight.
It was also paramount that the architecture of the building be underpinned by cutting-edge technology. Within the entrance , the 'Lightwell' therefore offers an opportunity for students to undertake live-streamed design sprints so that the design not only functions as circulation space to the studios, but also functions as a teaching and learning resource.
