MAIDENHEAD RAILWAY STATION

We’re proud to have supported Morgan Sindall, Network Rail and Great Western Railway to deliver designs for a new lift, stair and fencing at Maidenhead.

The works consist of a new lift and stair to an existing island platform; a great feat of civil and architectural engineering due to their location between two operational rail tracks.

The project was delivered on programme on Friday 30th August and an opening ceremony was held on Friday 6th September, and opened by former Prime Minister Lady Theresa May. Also in attendance were current MP Joshua Reynolds and Simon Werner, leader of Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

With the additional stair, the designs have doubled the stair-capacity to the platforms and greatly improved passengers’ safety. In addition, new fencing has been designed and delivered along the length of the platform, skilfully avoiding the abundance of buried services below platform level, and providing a buffer zone between waiting passengers, and high-speed trains, to and from Paddington.

Collaborating with Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Frankham Consultancy Group,Fourway, SM Engineering and AJ Wells, BPR's design used a facing-brick coursing that loosely-recalls the historic booking hall, as well as a contemporary Vitreous Enamel-clad parapet to the stair, to provide guarding around the stairwell.
